Safety Trumps Privacy in Court Case

Last Friday the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia decided that safety concerns, coupled with the ability of transportation workers to produce false urine samples, to allow drug testers to utilize a “direct observation technique” when collecting urine samples. The government’s interest in providing a “drug free” work place for transportation workers trumps the workers’ right to privacy.

Accused Maersk Alabama Pirate Indicted

Abduwali Abdukhadir Muse, one of the Somali pirates accused of hijacking the Maersk Alabama has been indicted on 10 counts. The charges are: piracy, possession of a machine gun while seizing a ship by force, hostage-taking, conspiracy to commit hostage-taking, possession of a machine gun during hostage-taking, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping and possession of a machine gun during kidnapping.

Muse is to be arraigned on Thursday in Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York. Eight of the ten counts carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Harrison & Associates – Marine Surveyors, LLC has launched its new website YourMarineSurveyor.com. Designed primarily as a means of communicating with clients, and potential clients, YourMarineSurveyor.com most notable feature is a blog which allows comments from the public.

According to George H. Harrison, principle surveyor at Harrison & Associates:

While we work in a highly technical field, most of our websites are designed primarily as online business cards. I wanted something a little more; a site where we could communicate information AND receive feedback from clients, potential clients and the public.

While still in beta, the site has gone live in order to receive feedback.
